Short But Oh So Sweet

well im in my hard cast. typing solely left-handed. sorry if this is incoherent or confusing, but i wanted to update you on my status.

pain has subsided very, very much, yet not completely. my hip is still pretty sore (VERY painful when i sneeze, oouuch). my cast is red (GOBIGRED!) and not yet smelly/itchy, for it is young yet (since Tuesday). stitches are out, oh and i saw my xray. i have a 25mm (aka 1 inch) screw in my right hand, and the pics look so cool! sorry guys, i wont be setting off metal detectors. color me disappointed.

on the bright side, i just finished reading Prejean's "Dead Man Walking," as well as Camus' "Reflections on the Guillotine." great book, great essay. i recommend them both whole-heartedly.

also, in *wonderful*news, ill be writing as an opinion columnist next semester for the Daily Nebraskan, our school paper. i'll be semi-weekly, working my way up to weekly eventually (hopefully). im so proud and happy! we're a top 15/ top 10 college paper, and apparently the application competition was stiff. :) !!! hooray

as short as this is, its taken me 15 minutes to write, where it would have usually taken me about 3 (if my thoughts are already collected). so im gonna go cuz this is sooooo tedious. new post before the new year... probably.

Happy Thanksgiving. Be thankful for those around you. I know i am.

Big Day Almost At Hand

Sorry I haven't been updating lately. It's ridiculous how much has been going on. But it'll get better (can't get much busier, I know that much). Tomorrow I get screwed.... that is, I get a screw put into my hand. Surgery could be crappy, but hey, I'll be asleep. I'm cool with that. I love sleep. I'd venture that most college students do. It's like one of those dreams come true when we finally hit the sack. Magical. And hey... that means tomorrow I actually have to sleep through class. I mean, they're making me. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. The doctor will put me under at 1030am, just as my Spanish class begins. Can't argue with the man. He's got a scalpel.

So, I feel bad for my hip. After years of coherence, part of it will be leaving. It's relocating to my wrist, kind of being called to duty. I hope the rest of my hip isn't sad. I'm sure it'll be pissed, though. And it'll take it all out on my nervous system, as for the next few weeks my hip will be punching my brain, saying "ow ow OW!!!" Stupid angry hip. Anyways. So it's cool that my wrist will be better. That's pretty sweet. Otherwise, the next couple of months will be difficult and painful, but I'll get through them. It's time for my wrist to be fixed. (Note: This may mean that this could be the last post for at least a few days. Sorry!)

Mom flew in today! Tonight we're going to P.O. Pear's to see a local jazz act. Supposed to be a great sax-a-ma-phonist there. Coltrane influenced. Nice. I'm pumped. On my way now. Hasta.

Applying for a Position at the Daily Nebraskan

Yep, it's true. I'm applying to be an Opinion Columnist for our student newspaper. I think it'd be great for me, 'cuz then people would totally read my stuff (this is fun, don't get me wrong, but I do have a limited audience, you realize). I just spoke with my Residence Director (effectively, my boss as an RA), and he said he wanted to get other opinions on it, but it sounded like it'd be cool with him, which is comforting. I'm starting to get excited. I finished up my resumé and have 2 out of the required 3 pieces ready to turn in. I need to find one more and I should be golden.

Anyway, wish me luck!

Off to study. 4 tests this week and surgery on Friday. This week will be the epitome of stressful. Starting now. (wish me luck for that, too)
